Centrex Phone Five-digit Dialing to End at University Park

Beginning March 3, five-digit phone dialing will no longer be supported for Centrex phones at University Park. Due to an initiative to modernize Penn State’s decades old telephone infrastructure, Penn State employees who use Centrex phones will need to dial “8” plus a seven-digit phone number for all calls and faxes to other University Park numbers (the same as making an off-campus call).

Though Centrex users will need to change their daily dialing habits, local, domestic, international, and 9-1-1 emergency dialing will not be affected. Employees who use Cisco Voice over Internet Protocol phones can continue to dial five-digit extensions.
