Why smart devices and wearables will be security’s new headache

Smart devices largely use the same operating system as their smartphone counterparts. This is the case with Android devices. When we talk about smart devices and Android, we’re talking about a mature platform in terms of malware.

The worst threat from smart devices may exist in preempting smartphone locking. “The user can use the watch for dual authentication. You can unlock your phone; at least on Android, it won’t lock if you have the Android smart watch next to you,” says Guerra. So if an employee loses both the smartphone with sensitive corporate data and the smart watch together, or if they are at the gym for example and someone steals their phone and their watch from the locker, the thief/attacker can unlock the phone.
