Microsoft (mostly) fixes ‘ring after pickup’ bug in Skype for Windows 8.1
A week after fixing the ‘ring after pickup’ bug for Skype on Windows desktop, Microsoft officials said they’ve also addressed the problem in the Windows Store/Metro-Style version of the Skype app for Windows 8.1. The issue doesn’t seem to be entirely fixed, according to a March 10 post on the Skype “Garage & Updates” blog. […] more…Samsung introduces Chromebook 2 laptops with Galaxy Note 3 stitched design
Yesterday’s leaks of new Samsung Chromebooks with the faux leather look of its Galaxy Note 3 phones and tablets appear to be entirely accurate, as the company has just officially announced two new models, complete with that same trim. When Microsoft was forced to change the name of its cloud storage from SkyDrive, many people thought it was unfair — myself included. After all, SkyTV is an entirely different product. Facebook has retired its @facebook.com e-mail addresses as of Monday, according to Recode. The reason for killing the feature is, unsurprisingly, very few people were using it. Facebook introduced the e-mail addresses in November 2010 as a way to deliver messages to users’ inboxes without needing to use Facebook to originate the message. At the […] more…The Talking Angela witch hunt – what on earth is going on?
For the last week, the internet – and Facebook in particular – has been positively moist with the foamy, spittle flecks of an outraged, pitchfork wielding mob. The outrage has been so verbose and so sudden that the internet has almost entirely run out of lower case letters. So what’s going on? more…Not Just Pills or Payday Loans, It’s Essay SEO SPAM!
Remember back in school or college when you had to write pages and pages of long essays, but you had no time write them? Or maybe you were just too lazy? Yeah, good times. Well, it seems like some companies are trying to end this problem. They are offering services where clients pay them to […] more…Inside Endgame: A Second Act For The Blackwater Of Hacking

Former RSA chief scientist Ari Juels has outlined a cunning way to foil crackers: let them think they’ve busted into a system and then give them fake data to play with. The idea is not entirely novel because Juels last year proposed a scheme he called “Honeywords” in this paper, co-authored with RSA founder Ronald […] more…FBI has a complete copy of a Tor Mail server, is using it to catch hackers

A new sample was submitted to the Virus Total system on January 18th which was quickly spotted by my colleague Dmitry Bestuzhev. Interestingly enough, it seems that a new variant of the Jumcar malware family has appeared and a lot of changes have been made to the original source code. As this is Latin American […] more…Everyone Has A Secret
People are seldom an entirely open book. It’s common sense and rational to keep some stuff like financial and medical records away from prying eyes. For others, it can be something trivial and silly (say, an embarrassing taste in music) to the more serious (like a traumatic event in one’s past). Since my Portuguese is a little rusty, I turned to a colleague in our office in Brazil, and she confirmed that the domain belongs to the city of Franca in São Paulo, Brazil.
