Centrex Phone Service Five digit Dialing to End at University Park

Beginning February 1, 2017, five digit dialing will no longer be supported for Centrex phone service at University Park. This dialing change will save the University money by eliminating the maintenance of the legacy Centrex analog infrastructure required for five digit dialing. Penn State students, faculty, and staff members who use Centrex phone services will need to dial“8” plus a seven digit phone number for calls and faxes to other University Park numbers (the same as making an off campus call). Centrex phone service is typically used on campus for some fax machines and residence hall
courtesy phones.

Although Centrex users will need to change their daily dialing habits for local and domestic dialing, international and 911 emergency dialing will not be affected. Those who use Cisco VoIP phones at University Park can continue to dial five digit extensions for calls within University
Park

Dialing instructions are available on the IT Knowledge Base. For help or questions, contact the IT Service
Desk by calling 8-865-4357 or by submitting and inquiry through the
Penn State Help Request Portal
