Canvas chat to be unavailable beginning on March 31

On Friday, March 31, Instructure will be performing updates to the Chat tool in Canvas that will take place over a scheduled maintenance window resulting in Chat being unavailable to users for up to 24 hours. All other features of Canvas will still be operational during this time. Instructure has not yet set an exact time for when this update will start, but it will be done overnight when fewer people are likely to be attempting to access the Chat tool. This alert will be updated when more information on start time is available.

The Chat tool has been modified as a Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) tool to allow for functionality enhancements including updates for the interface, chat management, and chat history. The migration of chat history from the existing Chat tool to the new one will take place during the updates on March 31.
