Windows 8 Outlook 2013 users and authsmtp.psu.edu

Due to a May 12, 2015 Microsoft patch (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3061518) for Windows 8 (and later) Outlook 2013, users who send e-mail with authsmtp.psu.edu can no longer send e-mail. ITS is working to remediate this as soon as possible. We anticipate that this will be resolved in early June. Please note: this does not affect Windows 7 Outlook users.

Until a fix can be applied to authsmtp.psu.edu, ITS recommends that Windows 8 (and later) Outlook 2013 users implement one of the following suggestions:
1) Change the Outgoing Mail Server within Outlook 2013 to smtp.psu.edu (following the “For Non-Authenticated SMTP, follow these steps:” at the bottom of ITS KB Article 2981, http://kb.its.psu.edu/node/2981). Once this setting is changed, users off-campus will need to use VPN to access email on Outlook 2013.
2) Use another email client, such as Thunderbird, to send e-mail. Reference this KB article for instructions on how to set up Thunderbird using IMAP: http://kb.its.psu.edu/node/1674 . Reference this KB article for instructions on how to set up Thunderbird using POP: http://kb.its.psu.edu/node/1675 .
